How to Review an AI-Generated Graphical Abstract
A focused review checklist for labels, evidence, visual relationships, permissions, and journal requirements.
An AI-generated graphical abstract is a draft, not evidence. Before sharing it with collaborators, reviewers, or readers, review the image with the same care you would apply to a figure assembled manually.
Check the scientific message
Write the one sentence a reader should remember, then compare it with the image. Every panel and arrow should support that sentence. Remove elements that imply findings the study did not establish.
Verify every visible detail
- Confirm terminology, labels, units, and numerical values.
- Inspect molecular structures, anatomy, equipment, and biological relationships.
- Check that arrows show the intended direction and do not imply causality without evidence.
- Distinguish predicted, observed, and hypothetical results.
- Read the image at its intended display size so small labels are not hidden by zoom.
Check permissions and disclosure
Confirm that you have permission to use uploaded references, logos, icons, and third-party material. Review the target journal's current rules for AI-generated or AI-assisted images, attribution, disclosure, dimensions, and file format.
Keep the source nearby
Reviewing is easier when the manuscript, verified values, and figure legend are available beside the draft. Apply one correction at a time and keep a record of the final approved version.
